The Distinguished Lecturer Tour by Nizar Zorba Inspires Innovation
In November 2024, the IEEE Spain Signal Processing and Communications Joint chapter hosted an inspiring Distinguished Lecturer Tour by Nizar Zorba, supported by the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc). Across four venues in Barcelona and Madrid, Prof. Zorba captivated audiences with visionary talks on Terahertz (THz) Communications, exploring their transformative role in 6G networks. The presentations tackled key challenges such as line-of-sight requirements and weather sensitivity, highlighting the potential of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) as practical solutions for accelerating THz deployment in commercial systems.
During the tour, the lecturer delivered three talks in Barcelona and one in Madrid, each focusing on the theme “Are UAVs Needed for Wider Implementation of Terahertz Communications?” In Barcelona, the presentations at CTTC, Universitat Oberta de Catalunya, and Universitat Pompeu Fabra captivated audiences with insights into the challenges of deploying high-frequency THz communications and the role of UAVs in overcoming obstacles like line-of-sight requirements. The final talk in Madrid at Universidad Carlos III extended these discussions, drawing a diverse audience to explore cutting-edge solutions and engage in vibrant discussions about the future of 6G networks, UAV technologies, and the practical steps toward IEEE standardization.
This Distinguished Lecturer Tour showcased the IEEE program’s potential to drive innovation and build international connections. By blending groundbreaking research with personal exchange, the tour underscored the power of knowledge sharing to push the boundaries of communication technologies and inspire future advancements.
